ABU DHABI, UAE - Monday, 24 October: Dr. Raffaele Chiulli was the clear winner in the vote for the UIM presidency taken on Sunday at the 84th UIM General Assembly held in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Chiulli cruised past the finish line to extend his tenure as President of the UIM - the top spot in World power boating - for another four years after receiving 22 votes, more than double those cast for Belgium’s Jean-Marie Van Lancker and Latvia’s Modris Kalnciems.
H2O Racing president, Nicolò di San Germano, was among the first to offer his congratulations and continued full support for Dr. Chiulli. “I am pleased for Rafaelle and look forward to our continued cooperation and giving our full support to him and his office for the future development of our sport.”
Dr.Chiulli has undertaken a rigorous schedule of trips during his first four-year tenure and has been ever-present at UIM sanctioned events around the world.
In a recent interview he spoke passionately about his first term in office, stating that he considered himself a service provider and that he had done his best to deliver that service to those that had put their trust and faith in him.
He also highlighted some of the many achievements of the UIM family under his presidency, citing recognition by the IOC board in November 2010 of the UIM as a full member of the International Olympic Committee, the development of an Environmental code for the sport worldwide that received recognition and an award at the Monaco boat show, the recently formed environmental association between the UIM, the FIA, FIM and the FAI , its youth development programme and the restructuring of the UIM’s corporate image and increased association with the media.
