Sharjah, UAE - 14th December - Sharjah - Following their horror crash in the penultimate Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, many assumed Team Nautica's Polish driver Bartek Marszalek and Team Qatar's Shaun Torrente would be missing from the 'Grand Finale' in the magnificent surroundings of Sharjah.
They'd be wrong as a quick phone call back to Poland ensured Bartek had the funds to purchase a nearly new BaBa steed from Team Sweden's Jonas Andersson who had taken delivery of a new Molgaard hull.
Bartek and his team are busy removing all essential equipment from his wrecked BaBa and fitting it onto the new boat which will be ready for qualifying on Thursday. Torrente, who had shipped his own American built Gran Prix boat over from the USA for the final two races of the year as part of the Qatar team was bitterly disappointed when he discovered his damaged boat was not repairable in time for Sharjah.
However Team Qatar have agreed to loan him a DAC for the final so there will be a full complement of eighteen boats lining up on Friday for the race that will decide the 2011 UIM World F1 Champion, and we know it will be from Team Qatar as either ex, world champion Jay Price or their up and coming Italian pilot Alex Carella, who only joined the F1 series in 2009.
