LIUZHOU, China – Sunday, October 2, 2011 – The vast crowds watching the Liuzhou GP were treated to a full menu of drama from the time Team Sweden's Jonas Andersson jumped the start through to a magnificent 1-2 for Team Abu Dhabi as Thani Al Qamzi headed his team mate Hamed Al Hameli across the finish line.
As the eighteen strong pack swept around the first turn mark, and approached turn two Team Atlantic's French driver Philippe Tourre appeared to spin round and there was an almighty collision between him and Singha Beer's Valerio Lagiannella.
Tourre's boat was almost destroyed and Lagiannella lost his engine. The pace boat with guest driver Bimba Sjoholm at the wheel led the remaining fleet around the course and when the wreckage was cleared and the green flag raised Al Hameli held the lead over Al Qamzy with Qatar's Jay Price third and China's Philippe Chiappe in fourth place ahead of Sami Selio.
Positions remained unchanged until Selio violently nose-dived and flipped over. The Osprey Rescue were called to extracate him from his cockpit. He was later taken to the hospital where he is being examed for possible injuries.
Again the top three places were occupied by Al Hameli, Al Qamzy and Chiappe had moved into third place. We await the full classified finishing order but can confirm the top three places.
