You couldn't make it up. It was a nightmare for Abu Dhabi's star duo of Thani Al Qamzi and Ahmed Al Hameli. Seconds after the start and on the first turn buoy, the pair crashed into each other but thankfully neither were injured.

The first Abu Dhabi Watersports Festival was dream for Mad Croc, Finland's Sami Selio who led from start to chequered flag despite a strong challenge from Team China's French driver Philippe Chiappe while reigning world champion Alex Carella completed the podium line-up.

However this was a memorable race for Team Nautica's Marit Stromoy, who in front a a large contingent of Norwegian supporters enjoyed her best result of her year finishing in 4th place.

She held Qatar's Shaun Torrente at bay for the full 39 laps. Youssef Al Rubayan, Terry Rinker, Filip Roms, Valerio Lagiannella and Ivan Brigada rounded out the top ten.
