SHARJAH - Sunday, December 8, 2013 - Four of the world's most talented drivers from four separate countries are locking horns in a "all or nothing" battle on the waters of the Khalid Lagoon this upcoming Friday afternoon for the sixth and final round of the UIM F1 H2O World Championship for powerboating.
This 30th racing season has a pair of pilots who are trying to become first time World Champions against two others who are two-time title holders and who want to join a very elite group of three drivers (Guido Cappellini, Scott Gillman and Renato Molinari) who can claim three or more World Championships in their career.
Here are the four drivers in the title, here's what they are saying and we'll let you vote for whom you think has the best chance of being crowned World Champion for 2013:
1.) Sami Selio - The Finnish driver has a pair of World titles in his back pocket and earned both of them here on the Khalid Lagoon in 2007 and 2010. He has two wins this season; Brazil and Abu Dhabi. He leads the drivers table with 64 points.
"I have won this title twice before and I feel calm and ready to go since I know what I must do to win," said Selio. "I have a great crew and we are ready to win and I have more pole positions than any other active driver and the pole will be so important here. So, vote for me!
2.) Shaun Torrente - The young dynamic driver from Miami, Florida is also one of two drivers from the Qatar Team who is one of the most aggressive and passionate drivers on the tour. He won big in Doha a month ago and has been either first or second in three of the five races thus far. He has 62 points.
"I have been working hard all season to put myself and my team in this position to win it all this Friday," said Shaun. "Despite some bad breaks we still are a flicker away from the title and I am going all out to get it. This is my time and my place in history to do it. So, vote for me!
3.) Alex Carella - This Italian driver has been something special the last two season's having taken two straight world titles for the Qatar Team. Alex has finished on the podium in eight straight races he's completed including four victories during that time. Won in Liuzhou this season, but hasn't finished the race here in Sharjah the last two years in a row. Has 60 points.
"I want this championship for myself and the team because it would give me something that hasn't been done in ten years and that is win three straight world titles," said Alex. "I've never won here and I want to go out on a high note and show everyone I can take the pressure of this day as well as everyone else." So, vote for me!
4.) Philippe Chiappe - The French driver who is a dark horse but who has a lot of motivation after getting disqualified from the Grand Prix of Qatar for technical reasons and losing a possible podium position. Earned his first career victory in Kyiv and has three podiums in four races he's finished. He has 54 points.
"We realize we are playing catch-up and we also know that Sharjah is the one place that is almost the "Bermuda Triangle" of racing where strange things happen when you least expect it and the obvious would be champions don't become champions," stated Philippe. "My team is all in this to win this, so lets go." Vote for me!
So, there are the four candidates. Drivers from four different countries and two different continents with one dream in mind to win a world title. Now it's up to you to make your choice and decide who has the best chance of capturing the crown.
The 15th Grand Prix race of Sharjah will take place on Friday the 13th of December at 16:00 local, 12:00 GMT and 07:00 EST on the East Coast of North America.
