ABU DHABI – Friday, September 30, 2011 – Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Shaun Torrente has announced today that after lengthy discussions with his chief sponsors Peters & May they have jointly decided to forego the upcoming Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou on the weekend of October 1-2 to concentrate for the all important final two events in the United Arab Emirates in early December.
The decision was based on the fact that they would then have the best possible equipment and plans to make a real run at podium finishes something they came close to achieving more than once but failed to do in the first four races of the 2011 UIM F1 H2O World Championship series.
The official News Release from Shaun Torrente Racing stated:
'To some, we've been a colorful addition to the 2011 UIM F1 H2O World Championship tour, to others not so much. We stormed out of the gates with a fourth place finish in Doha, followed by an unfortunate accident for the lead in Portugal. This was followed by another accident with a different hull in Kazan, Russia and then two weeks later breaking down early at the Grand Prix of Ukraine in Kiev. Despite this series of misfortunes we are still 10th in the championship and feel we can achieve a podium finish before the season concludes in December.
We are very confident and we made a strong impression and one that we feel is only the beginning. We've learned a lot so far this year. Not only from the racing but from the fellow teams on the tour as well. We have been impressed by the professionalism and dedication from not only the fellow racers but to the all-important support staff and the monumental job they do as well to put on the Grand Prix's.
We will continue to learn and with the help of our primary sponsors Peters & May, who have shown tremendous trust in our ability and fantastic faith, that as we move down the road, we can make their investment in us worthwhile in our commitment to our pursuit of the UIM F1 H2O World Championship crown.
We've had some circumstances that have been beyond our control that have made it difficult to compete in Liuzhou. Our team, along with Peters & May, have decided to regroup and be ready for the last two Grand Prix's in Abu Dhabi on the 9th of December and Sharjah on the 16th in the United Arab Emirates.
We feel, this approach will give us the best opportunity to compete at the highest level, as well as, gain some momentum going into next year. Building a professional racing team is about have the right talent, knowledge and timing. To that end, we recognize in our inaugural year it is important to ensure we provide the best return on investment for our sponsor and our team.
What this means is that Shaun Torrente Racing will not be able to attend the 16th Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou. The team is very disappointed and will miss the competition. We will be in Abu Dhabi, focused and ready once again.
We want to thank all our sponsors Peters & May, Pro Marine, Wizard Pistons, Speedmasters and PTR Race Engines for their support.'
