ABU DHABI, UAE - Friday, 7 August: Five days after the Grand Prix of Portugal, Finland's Sami Selio is still seething about the crash that spectacularly ended his race in Porto.
There was a heated exchange of words between Selio and Alex Carella in the pits after the race, Selio clearly placing the blame for what he calls a totally unnecessary incident at Carella's door. "It was not a racing incident Carella moved on me. It is clear for everyone to see."
Pole sitter Selio led for 10 laps before Chiappe took advantage of a backmarker and pulled off an audacious pass sliding round the outside to hit the front. Seventeen laps later Selio's world turned upside down, a close brush with Carella and up, over and out of the race went the Finn, Carella going on to take third.
Selio is adamant that the crash could have been avoided. "If I knew he [Carella] was going to play dirty I Could have taken action. From other drivers in the past you can expect that. I was not ready for that from Carella. He is learning fast from someone." he said. "In Evian he did something similar that could have ended the same way but came and apologised for his mistake. I said OK but make sure it was a mistake and doesn't happen again. Now there is no need to apologise. Too much is too much.
"I know there is a lot of pressure to win, but not like that. And there was no need for it. I had some problems on lap 5 and slowed a bit and then some other issues. So to pass me should have been easy for him. There was a couple of hundred metres to the next turn so he would have passed me easily. There was no need to do what he did."
