SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates, Friday December 16 - This final race of the 2011 season will be a talking point for many months to come. As pole setter Ahmed Al Hameli led the charge around the first lap, young Italian 'rookie' Alex Carella and Qatari team mate Jay Price clashed big time.
The result was a dramatic crash leaving both boats either sunk or sinking. The most ironic outcome is that Carella wins the world championship as the only person who could beat him was Price. To make matter's worse for Price was that race winner Ahmed Al Hameli collected enough points to leap-frog him in the points table so the luckless Price ended up 3rd overall.
Chasing Al Hameli all the way was his Abu Dhabi team mate Thani Al Qamzi while CTIC China's Philippe Chiappe once again proved consistant with 3rd ahead of Francesco Cantando who held off the advances of Marit Stromoy but following a yellow flag situation Qatar's third driver Shaun Torrente past the Norwegian girl to fill 5th place with Team Atlantic's Duarte Benavente, Ryys Coles and Jonas Andersson rounding out the top eight.
