Thursday, 1 October, LIUZHOU (China): Alex Carella was the pace setter in this morning's official practice session posting a time of 46.08s around the 2000 metre six-pin course on the River Liu, with Abu Dhabi teammate Thani Al Qamzi very much in touch with 46.33s. "This is a lucky circuit for me, hopefully again," said Carella. "Everything was OK and yes this is just free practice but is important to get a feel for this afternoon. I didn't make many laps but the set-up is good and I know what propeller is good for this circuit for sure. Pole is the target."
There was a big boost for Team EMIC's Marit Stomoy, running strongly and going third fastest with 46.70s.
Poland's Bartek Marzalek failed to start the session and is side lined from the weekend's activities because of damage to the interior his fuel tank as a result of a reaction to the fuel used at recent events corroding the epoxy resin.
Emirates Erik Stark opted to run the BABA hull, asked if it was the right call he said yes, asked if he was sure he said no!
Championship leader Torrente was forced to box his way out of trouble after early engine issues. "We were on the back foot and right up against the ropes getting pummelled early on breaking an engine. We put another one on gave it some extra break in time but I was very nervous that it too might break. But it ran well and in the worst conditions of the session. The changes we have done have improved the handling, now I can drive it how I want so I think we are in a good place right now."
