Saturday, 1 August, PORTO (Portugal): Following meetings with teams and drivers in Porto ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix of Portugal, the Formula 1 [Daily] Management Committee has revised several procedures in order try to limit disruption in the event of an incident on the water.
In order to prevent a situation of a race ending under a prolonged yellow flag, the revisions are;
- if an incident occurs with three or less than three laps to run, the chequered flag will be shown and the result determined by the order of the previous lap to when the yellow flag was raised
- if the yellow flag is shown five laps before the end of the race, the race will be extended by five laps from when the green flag is raised
The Committee also announced that from Porto the Pace Boat will no longer be used and that in the event of a yellow flag the lead boat will in effect become the pace boat, with instruction given to the driver via his radioman who will be in constant contact with the UIM Commissioner.
It was also agreed that from the Grand Prix of China the time of a race will be extended to a minimum 40 / maximum 60 minutes.
