Saturday, 1 August, PORTO (Portugal): Victory Team's Nadir Bin Hendi endured a baptism of fire on his F1H2O debut, spectacularly crashing out of this afternoon's official qualifying at the end of Q1.
Bin Hendi was coming to the end of the opening 20 minute session when he was caught out by a wave and the wind and flipping over.
Earlier in the morning Dubai's multiple Class 1 World Champion took his first tentative steps in a single seater putting in 25 laps and posting a best time of 56.73s in first practice and fatefully said "I'm getting there. I have had very little time in an F1 and I don't want to make any mistakes now that will cost us later. So step-by-step but each lap I am trying to improve, push the throttle a little more and get used to the turns. But there is no point to push before I am comfortable, if I crash it will be a wasted trip."
Hendi, who was unhurt, is hopeful that the boat can be fixed in time for him to make his first F1H2O Grand Prix start.
