Kazan 17.25 - 17th July - Qatar's Alex Carrella drove a superb race to secure his first victory of the season in the GP of Tatarstan. After claiming pole position yesterday, the young Italian was never challenged in the 40 lap GP.
At one stage it looked like Abu Dhabi's American team manager Scott Gillman was in line for a podium place in his first race for 4 years but he was pipped for 3rd place by Qatar's Jay Price who drove a magnificent race after starting at the back of the grid
It was smiles all round for Abu Dhabi's Thani Al Qamzi as he chased Carrella home for the silver medal award. Team Sweden's Shaun Torrente held 2nd place in the early laps until a fuel pump dropped off. He stopped, refitted it but on lap 24 the starboard sponson on his boat appeared to come adrift and the cat instantly sank.
Torrente's team mate Jonas Andersson also departed the action when he barrel-rolled on lap 7. Of the 17 starters only 10 made it to the chequered flag with Philippe Chiappe filling 5th spot ahead of Team Nautica's Marit Stromoy, Russia's Stan Kourtsenovski, Francesco Cantando and Philippe Tourre.
