ABU DHABI - November 14, 2013 - The three candidates for entry into the fifth class of the UIM F1 H2O World Championship's HALL-OF-FAME are holding their breath for four more days as the voting will officially end on 23:59 GMT this Sunday, the 17th of November for the class of 2013.
Out front in the ballot box battle is the U.K.'s late-great racing hero John Hill as the one-time World Champion has scored big and currently leads all candidates with and impressive 55.9% of the votes thus far.
Italian Guido Cappellini, winner of 10 World Titles in his twenty years of racing on the tour, sits comfortably in the second and final spot with 36.2% of the votes.
The racing legend from Como is easily ahead of U.K. historic champion Bob Spalding who has taken eight percent of the votes and hopes to pull off a miracle finish with less than 90 hours for the voting to be run by pushing his cause to all whom will listen.
"It's been a surprising turn around for first and second place," said UIM F1 H2O President Nicolo di San Germano. "Guido led early and then was passed by John on the second week of voting around late-summer and has held out his number one position ever since."
"The great thing about this competition is when the voting ends there will be two amazing drivers added to our "hall" whom will long be remembered for their contribution to the sport. I only wish John could be here to see the appreciation around the world he has earned from everyone who has voted."
If elected, John Hill will be the second person from the United Kingdom following last year's election to long time racing promoter David Parkinson.
Guido Cappellini, if chosen, would be the first Italian taken since his long-time friend and mentor in racing great Renato Molinari was selected in the original class of 2009.
The 2013 inductee's will mark the ninth and tenth persons selected to this very exclusive group whom are members of the UIM F1 H2O Championship's HALL-OF-FAME.
