IBIZA, Spain - Monday October 27 - One of the hardest working individuals in all of powerboat racing, Luis Miguel Ribeiro Martins, was elected to the very selective and influential UIM Council at the 87th UIM's annual General Assembly held this past week in Ibiza, Spain.
Luis, is the current UIM F1 H2O Race Commissioner who oversee's all the racing activities both on and off the water during each Grand Prix, was voted onto the Council board, a well deserved honor for a man who has dedicated nearly all of his adult life to the sport of powerboat racing.
Having taken over the responsibilities of Race Director full time a few years ago, Luis has been both a long time racer and official for many years in his home country of Portugal.
Luis still enjoys the sport as a racer in the F4 class when not working with the H2O Racing Powerboat Promotion staff at either the Class 1 World Powerboat Championships, the Aquabike World Championships or the Nations Cup.
"I am proud of Luis receiving this position and he has earned it with all his hard work over the years in the sport," said H2O Racing Powerboat Promotions President Nicolo di San Germano.
"Luis has a burning desire to make powerboat racing an even more visible sport around the world and I think he will add a lot to council in the years ahead."
The U.I.M. Is the world governing body for all powerboat activities and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with nearly 60 affiliated National Federations and is headed by President Dr. Raffaele Chiulli with the head office in Monaco.
The father of two, who lives in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, now sets his sites on his next assignment with the third round of the 2014 UIM F1 H2O World Championship and the Grand Prix of The Middle East to be held on the Gulf on Doha Bay in Doha, Qatar on the 14th and 15th of November coming up in less than three weeks time.
Luis will be one of the first persons there and with a smile on his face. He always does when there's race boats on the water.
