ABU DHABI - Monday, April 20, 2015 - If you can't find a way to defeat them...sign them!
The big story of the month in the world of the UIM F1H2O World Championship is that Team Abu Dhabi Race Team Manager Guido Cappellini has made a major move in order to take his team to the top of the F1H2O World.
In a clever move, Cappellini has signed engine management guru Brendan Power from the now "frozen" Qatar Team, handing him the keys by making him the man responsible to develop maximum power from their Mercury V-6 engines in order to help win the Team and Drivers Championship for the 2015 campaign.
Cappellini, the Hall-of-Fame driver who took over the program for Team Abu Dhabi back in February, now has a powerful "trio" of very talented Americans joining his organization that have been the heart and soul of the Qatar organization that steered the team to three titles in the past four years while winning 13 times in 24 races since the 2011 campaign.
Power, who actually is a native of Australia, but came to America many years ago to help out the Seebold Racing Team, now makes his home in Florida where he takes advantage of the good weather using a secret testing facility only an hour away from his engineering shops in the city of Clearwater for all of his engine development.
Brendan, will now be reunited with three-time World Championship winning driver Alex Carella of Italy.
Alex, who finished runner-up in the championship a year ago with a shot at winning his fourth straight title, struggled at the first event this year in Doha coming home in fifth place. Now, he will have Brendan back on his side to help him in his quest for his fourth World Championship title.
Joining Brendan, will be talented technician Bill Rucker from California, along with propeller developer David DeWald of Pennsylvania. Both helped driver Shaun Torrente to the opening round win at the Grand Prix of Qatar back in March. They have been together as a trio for over the past decade in both North America and around the world in F1 racing and work as a well-oiled machine. "It's a tremendous opportunity to come to this team and join Guido and Alex," said Brendan. "Alex is a great person and I know that we will do everything possible in the years ahead to steer him towards chasing Guido's all-time record of 10 World Championship titles and I know Guido would want that too. It's all good here."
The "new look" Team Abu Dhabi unit is expected to have new boats ready for the next round at the Grand Prix of France in Evian on the weekend of the 26th to the 28th of June. Abu Dhabi veteran driver Thani Al Qamzi is expected back for his 15th season with the team chasing his eighth career victory. Meanwhile Alex is hopefully looking forward to his first win of the 2015 campaign and his 11th overall.
Team Abu Dhabi, loaded with talented management, drivers and crew members now move themselves towards the front of the line in hopes of winning both the Team and Drivers Championship titles in 2015. Let's see how it all plays out, starting in France.
