LIUZHOU, China – Wednesday, October 7, 2009 – It's starting to become a habit, but Finnish driver Sami Selio has taken his fourth straight pole position in China and his second in a row in two days on the Liu River as the drivers get ready for today's Eighth race of the 2009 U.I.M. F1 H2O World Championship and the 10th Grand Prix of China.
The lead driver of the Mad Croc F1 Team Woodstock effort came around the six turn 1.63 kilometer (1 mile) course at a pace of 138.23 kph with a time of 42.45 seconds beating out fellow Scandinavian driver Jonas Andersson of Team Azerbaijan who managed a 43.02 second effort and will start second.
Jay Price of the Qatar Team will be in third position with a 43.51 second lap, with Ahmed Al Hameli of the Team Abu Dhabi organization doing a 43.64 second time good for fourth position, but since his engine broke down is being forced to start at the end of the grid.
Italian Francesco Cantando who finished second yesterday will be fifth with a 43.69 in the Singha F1 Blaze boat, while three time race winner Guido Cappellini of the Zepter Team beginning sixth with a 43.79.
Rounding out the top ten is Frenchman Philippe Chiappe seventh, points leader Thani Al Qamzi eighth, Portuguese driver Duarte Benavente ninth and Pierre Lundin with the China CTIC Team finishing off the qualifying with a 44.49 second lap.
Today's eighth round begins at 1500 local, 0700 GMT and 0300 Eastern Standard Time in North America. Drivers from four different continents will take place wrapping up the first half of the 2009 campaign.
