Gustav Causes Havoc Once Again For F1 Points Leader!
ABU DHABI, U.A.E. – 8th of September, 2008 – It’s hurricane season once again around North America and for U.I.M. F1 World Championship points leader Jay Price of the Qatar Team, it was another battle on the water, but not in his 2008 DAC boat. It’s against mother natures biggest instigators, the full fury of a Category 2 Hurricane last week at his home on the eastern edge of Lake Pontchartrain in Slidell, Louisiana.
The storm, recording winds of over 110 miles an hour (180 kilometers), came roaring on land just 80 kilometers west of his home last weekend causing over 500,000 people to take shelter and leave their homes for higher ground around the low swampy bayou country that makes up the northern region of the Gulf of Mexico.
“It was a crazy few days,” said Jay. “I had to move 18 of my used cars that I had for sale, 3 jet-skis and also my Sea Ray boat and tie it to a barge so it wouldn’t blow away. I also took all the furniture in the house and raised it by tying it almost 2 meters above floor level so the rising water and flooding wouldn’t hopefully destroy it.”
Jay and his wife stayed in the house to battle the elements and protect all their belongings for the 2nd time in the past two years since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina back during the same Labor Day holiday weekend in 2006.
The bottom line, some roof damage and the loss of electricity for almost a week but now at least things are coming back to normal. However, with currently three more storms crossing the Atlantic from Central Africa and heading toward the Southeastern part of North America, it’s still “game on” and the battle for survival continues for at least another 8 weeks.
Good luck Jay. The upcoming race in Liuzhou on the 12th of October in the lovely Guanxi province of China for the 5th round of the 2008 championship maybe a “cake walk” compared to just living in the state of Louisiana this fall season.
