Saturday, 23 November, DOHA (Qatar): Germany's Mike Szymura coasted to victory in race 2 of the Trophy to lift the overall Grand Prix title after taking his second win of the season.
The Team F1 Atlantic driver jumped pole-sitter Nicklas Friberg and second placed Nikita Lijcs off the start to lead them into lap 1. Friberg hit problems on the next lap dropping to sixth, with Team Nautica's race 1 winner Alberto Comparato moving into fourth.
Lijcs stayed with Syzmura, the pair separated by less than a second, until lap 5 when the Mad Croc driver's engine started to overheat and he started to go backwards, then retiring from the race. A lap later Comparato was in trouble with an electrical issue and he too slowed to a crawl, dropping to seventh before retiring, but his win yesterday was enough to give him third overall in the points.
With his main rivals dropping like flies the German was able to coast to an easy victory by almost 30 seconds and extended his Championship lead to 45-points.
Behind the runaway leader the scrap for a top-three finish and the podium places was between CTIC China's Bing Chen Wu, Qatar's Khalid Al Kuwari and Team Sweden's Friberg who had fought his way back into contention.
Bing Chen defended his second spot heroically as Al Kuwari got to within two seconds, as he defended his position from the chasing Friberg.
Friberg moved in to third place on lap 13, Kuwari took the place back on 15, with Bing Chen leading the trio across the finish line to take second overall.
Team Singha's Jan Andre Landsnes had a lonely afternoon, finishing in fifth ahead of Abu Dhabi's Rashed Al Remeithi and Qatar's rookie driver, Mohamad Al-Obaidly.
