KIEV, Ukraine – Thursday, July 28, 2011 – With the second season of F4S racing reaching the halfway stage, the positions at the top of the points table, looks very similar to the 'big brother' F1 table with Qatar's Sabah Al Shamlan leading the way.
However it's interesting to note, the 27th year old Government official from Doha has collected most of his points from 2nd and 3rd places as opposed to wins.
The driver who has really excelled this term is a 29 year old lady driver from Stockholm, Bimba Sjoholm. Team Sweden's Bimba, is a talented glass blower who earns a living in a recycling plant in her home country. Her F4S record reads four wins, one crash and a disqualification in Kazan where she hit and punctured a turn buoy.
Third in the table is another recycling expert, Mat Palfreyman from Liverpool, Britain who supplements his income working in bars which enable him to driver for Team Atlantic.
Mad Croc's Filip Roms, was a sensation in 2010 but has found the pace a little too hot this term although he is alway challenging the top three pilots. Filip, who lives in Helsinki, Finland is a student at Univsersity.
Team Nautica's Norwegian, Tobias Munthe-Kaas, a motor mechanic by trade struggled last term driving in the powder blue Singha Beer cat but has shown tremendous improvement since moving teams this year and now lies 5th in the championship table.
China's Ziwei Xiong is another student, studying at Shenzhen University. He is still on a steep learning curve and is confident he will be challenging for a top three place when the F4S roadshow reaches his home city of Shenzen in October.
Abu Dhabi's low place in the table is partly because they have never kept the same driver for more than one race. Their two drivers are from the world class 1 division. In Kazan, the boat was suffering a mechinical problem and did not finish either race and what made it even more comical was that a Qatari pilt was driving their boat as no-one from Abu Dhabi was available.
Team Singha Beer has struggled thoughout. Last term Munthe-Kass was their driver and early in 2011 Christan Carlsen took over but in Kiev a new face joins the team in the shape of bartender Valts Silis from Latvia.
