SHARJAH – Friday, December 09, 2010 - Without wishing to take anything away from the boys of F1, their smaller relations in F4s are providing a magnificent support act as was clearly illustrated in the Lagoon, Sharjah.
Oskar Samuelsson had already been crowned F4s champion after success in earlier races but he lasted just two laps before retiring with engine problems. German Stefan Hagin proved that you never give up as he hunted down race leader Filip Roms until taking the lead after 15 minutes of the 20 minute heat. Indeed Roms spun on a turn after being overtaken such was his disappointment.
Chinese driver Xiong Ziwei was holding 3rd place in the early stages just ahead of Bimba Sjoholm but Ziwei spun on a turn bouy and Sjoholm appeared to lose power and both dropped back. There was a great tussle between the two Arabic boats of Saleh Al Shamlan of Qatar and Abu Dhabi’s Majeb Al Mansoori but it appeared Al Mansoori began to tire leaving the Qatar outfit to claim their best result of 2010 with 3rd place.
Sjoholm recovered full power to secure 4th place ahead of Al Mansoori while David del Pin filled 6th place and Ziwei had to be satisfied with 7th. Dare we mention poor Tobias Munthe-Kaas who struggled at the back but nevertheless finished the race in 8th place.
