Doha - 5th March 2011 - The first two GP's of the 2011 H2o Formula 4 championship went to Sweden's female pilot Bimba Sjoholm after she convincingly won race two and was awarded second place in yesterday's curtailed race. The event got off to a flying start...literally when long time leaders Mad Croc's Filip Roms and Team Atlantic's Matt Palfreyman performed an aerial display in front of the grandstand.
By the time the two upturned boats had been towed away, time had run out and Team Abu Dhabi's Majeed Al Mansoori was awarded victory ahead of Sjoholm and Qatar's Saleh Al Shamlan while Tobias Munthe-Kaas of Team Nautica filled 4th place. Everyone with the exception of Palfreyman lined up for race two and from the off, Team Sweden's Sjoholm stamped her authority and by the halfway stage had lapped tail-enders, China's Xiong Ziwei, who was experiencing engine problems and Team Singha's Kristoffer Fjelde.
Despite a concerted effort by Mad Croc's Filip Roms to keep in touch with the runaway leader, the Finn's speed of the first race deserted him as he finished a distant second ahead of Al Shamlan of Team Qatar and Munthe-Kaas.
Sjoholm heads the table on 35 points, Al Mansoori 29 points, Al Shamlan 24 points, Roms 20 points and Munthe-Kass 16 points
