ABU DHABI - Tuesday, November 6, 2012 - The hottest and most dominating driver in the UIM F2 World Championship the last two seasons, Erik Stark, is heading to the United Arab Emirates to take on the most talented drivers on water for the final two races of the 2012 UIM F1 H2O World Championship starting with the fifth round of the series at the 21st Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi on the 29th and 30th of November.
The driver from Stockholm, will join fellow Swede and mentor Jonas Andersson in the Team Sweden Molgaard hull replacing Bimba Sjoholm who raced in her first Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou a month ago. Erik is looking to see if he can translate his two year success in F2 into the world of F1.
"I'm really excited about getting a chance to tackle the ultimate challenge in inshore powerboat racing, coming to the UIM F1 H2O World Championship," stated Erik. "To come and work with my long time friend Jonas is just a dream come true."
"I know Jonas made an impact back in 2006 when he came up to F1 and I only hope I can repeat the same success. I want to do this not only for myself but for the whole team and we are all smiling after these back to back races come to a close on the seventh of December in Sharjah."
The 25 year-old Swede comes into F1 with a great resume. In his last two seasons, beginning with the 2011 campaign, he set the pace, winning every round from pole position.
Erik, repeated his success again this year with another World Championship crown after a pair of victories in four starts reaching the podium at every round cruising to the title while capturing 67 points.
The newest Scandinavian driver on the tour started racing at the age of 13 in 2000 moving on to F2 in 2007 where he won the Swedish drivers title at the same time.
His current 2012 campaign began in Cagliari, Italy, finishing second, sandwiched with a pair of brilliant back to back victories at his home Grand Prix in Stockholm followed by another win in Grimstad, Norway. His fourth and final event, in Great Britain, saw him coming home in third position sweeping the podiums and taking the crown in September.
A full field of drivers are expected for the culmination of the 2012 UIM F1 H2O World Championship for power boating on the 29th and 30th of November along the corniche in downtown Abu Dhabi for the 21st race in the historic Grand Prix that dates back to 1993.
The following week will hi-lite the final event of the season with Grand Prix of Sharjah on the sixth and seventh of December in the lovely venue of the Khalid Lagoon on the seasons longest racing circuit.
